How to Manifest Money by Writing (Realistically)

how to manifest money by writing

Today I’m going to share with you how I was able to manifest over $20,000 in less than 6 months. This post has practical tips that will help you start taking action.

I will not be talking about the kind of manifesting where you bury money in your backyard or put a bunch of random things in a jar together. Sure, those can be fun, and I’m sure they have their own level of usefulness… at least for setting a positive intention!

However, for this post, I will be focusing on what worked for me. I will go over the mindset you need to have and provide a more realistic exercise to get started with: a money calendar! Read on to learn how you can manifest money by writing.

What is manifesting money?

When you think of manifesting money, what most people think about is how you can make money appear when there isn’t any. Many people are looking for ways that will help them manifest money quickly, effortlessly, or even in as little as ten minutes!

I have yet to see a method that can help you make money appear like magic in under 24 hours. If someone tells you they can show you how to manifest money overnight, they are probably profiting off of selling you something.

It is my opinion that manifesting money is really about a few key factors. And none of them cost you anything! The key to manifesting money is to focus on creating a positive mindset, building a routine, and taking action.

Katherine Patterson once said, “a dream without a plan is just a wish”. You already have your dream (to make more money). Now you need a plan. That is where manifesting comes in!

Manifesting money through affirmations

When you think about manifesting money chances are one of the first things that may come to mind are affirmations. Affirmations are positive phrases that you can say to yourself that will help you change your mindset.

These can be useful for rewiring how you think about money. Your mind is a powerful thing and can help shape your reality. By cultivating a positive mindset, you will start to become a money magnet.

Another important thing that affirmations do is train you to think about your finances on a regular basis. I’m a firm believer that saving habits and routines are one of the most important things you can cultivate when it comes to money.

There is more than one way to accomplish this mental rewiring. I wanted to start off this post with affirmations because they are effective for many people and are easy to implement immediately.

Do money affirmations work?

Money affirmations work but they are only as strong as the intentions behind them. As with many things in life, you can’t replace hard work. Use affirmations as a daily reminder to work towards your goal.

You may be familiar with the term “placebo effect“. In medical research, there are typically two different groups that are given a pill. One pill contains the medicine and the other is usually a fake sugar pill.

Sometimes participants will report a response to the placebo (either good or bad). By simply expecting the pill to do something, the mind can actually produce results!

Affirmations in this case may very well be the placebo for starting new habits in your life. The affirmation itself may not be the cure, but your belief in it can be.

Here are some good money affirmations you can try:

  • Money comes to me in unexpected ways
  • I will accomplish my financial goals
  • I always have enough money
  • Money flows to me
  • I am rich

To me, repeating mantras and affirmations is really just one way to try and change the way that you think about money. Most people experience money as something that they lack. This can make it easy to get stuck with negative feelings of there not being enough.

By flipping the script, you are training yourself to have a more positive relationship with money where you feel it is something obtainable. Think of mantras and affirmations as a tool in your toolbox. They may not be useful in every situation, but they are excellent to have on hand!

Kat Update 3/30/2022: Today I was watching one of my favorite YouTubers, Zoe Pritchard. Zoe makes videos that are a mix between lifestyle vlogs and a documentation of her journey as an entrepreneur. She often shares behind the scenes details of her life and finances, which is why I love her content. In the video she posted today, she was talking about saying the phrase “I am a money magnet” and as she was saying that she happened to find $50 in an old envelope.

While manifestation doesn’t always happen this fast, I think it goes to show how reframing your mindset can help you stay on the look out for things. You can check out her youtube video here and the part I was referencing takes place around 21:00.

How to manifest money by writing affirmations

It may be no surprise to you that my favorite way to manifest money is by writing!

Personally, I am not someone who is going to stand in the mirror repeating these phrases to myself. Instead, I would write my affirmations on a mirror and read them as I started my day.

I was actually doing this for quite some time before I realized that I was manifesting money through writing. Once I realized this, I took it a step further by journaling about what I wanted my future to look like.

I promise this isn’t as silly or frivolous as it sounds! In a way, you are simply planning your future just like a business would. By writing out your profit expectations and accounting for any potential expenses.

Why manifesting money by writing works

To understand why manifesting money by writing works, let’s dig deeper into this idea of business planning. If you think about it, most business plans are written when a business is still not profitable.

A lot of businesses start off as a wish. The future owner dreams of leaving their 9 to 5 or making some sort of impact on the world around them. They may not have start-up money or know what product they will sell.

The person writing the plan has no way of knowing how, when, or what will eventually lead them to success. It is also very likely that the final business model that does make them profitable looks very different from the original business plan.

They may even write 20 different business plans before they find the right fit! Writing down the idea is a key step in starting a business that almost every entrepreneur has in common.

In fact, writing is the act of turning something invisible (thoughts) into something tangible (a physical plan!). Sounds awfully similar to manifestation, doesn’t it?

A case study on how to manifest money by writing

One of my favorite examples of manifesting money is actually from the actor Jim Carrey. He wrote himself a check for ten million dollars for his acting services. He dated his check for a few years in the future and carried it around in his wallet.

In 1995, he landed his life-changing role in Dumb and Dumber. And, of course, it was for 10 million dollars! Crazy isn’t it?

Obviously, Jim Carrey is not a psychic and it’s unlikely that some genie granted his wish. Ultimately, there is a reason why people tell you to write your goals down and to tell them to a friend!

It sounds so small, but just the act of putting pen to paper is taking action. Most people let their dreams float around in their head and they never even bother to record them.

My experience manifesting money by writing

When I first got started on my personal finance journey, my big goal was to retire in my 40s. Since most people retire in their mid-60s, it’s safe to say that this was an ambitious goal.

My original plan had me working a corporate job until my 30s, taking a year-long sabbatical to travel, and then maybe starting a business so that I could enjoy working for myself until retirement at 40. I first drafted this plan back when I was starting my senior year of college in 2016.

Fast forward a few years and it is now 2021. As I write this post, I’m 26 years old and living on the other side of the world. I’ve already taken a year (plus) off to travel and started my own business!

I’m still working towards the retire by 40 part, but I am well on track. In the first 6 months of launching my business, I earned over $20,000! I credit this success only in part to planning. Looking at how my business came together, it is clear that there was more than planning that resulted in my success.

Did I really manifest it?

To be honest with you, I thought my original goal was obtainable but still extremely unrealistic. If you would have told me that it would only take two years of working after graduation for me to put myself in a financial position to be able to travel for a year and start a business, I would have thought you were insane.

Yet I was able to obtain it much faster than I expected. There was no money windfall that got me there and certainly no gift from a rich family member. What started off as a dream for my future, became a written plan, that helped put me in the financial and mental state to spontaneously quit my job when the opportunity came.

I think we like to use the word manifest because it kind of gives you permission to dream. Manifestation takes you one step beyond your reality. Most people plan around what they consider to be “realistic” and that can be very limiting.

When you do the creative exercise of manifesting, it’s like you unlock the ability to dream beyond reality. The vision for your future may seem unrealistic at the time of writing, but by dreaming about it you mentally give yourself permission to work towards it.

How to get started manifesting money by writing

There is no right or wrong way to get started manifesting money by writing. If you’re somebody who is more of a verbal person then definitely try out the mantras and maybe some videos to help you think positively. If you prefer writing, then do that!

Or maybe you like the idea of putting together a money jar. It doesn’t matter what the exercise is, what is important is that it helps you to think positively. The easiest way to manifest money by writing is through using the routine you already have.

This can include journaling about your future, writing to-do lists, or even writing a life plan. You can even add in vision boards or picture collages if that is your thing! Manifesting money by writing is a personal exercise and can be as creative as you’d like it to be.

The most important thing you can do is start. And the easiest way to start is by doing one small thing every day. This shows that you are thinking of where you are going. You will naturally start growing towards your goals.

How you can manifest money by writing out your future

If you sit down and start writing about your financial future, then you start to naturally plan the various steps that it’ll take you to get there. So manifesting money isn’t necessarily about money appearing out of thin air. It’s about having a dream that you’re able to take action on.

This is why you hear a lot about famous people manifesting their success. If someone tells you that they are going to be a famous actor one day, you probably wouldn’t believe them.

That’s why, when we look at famous people, we always have this feeling that they were so lucky. To a certain extent, luck is of course involved in everything. But do you truly believe that all actors just got lucky?

How to manifest money by writing on a money calendar

manifest money calendar

If you’re looking for tips on how to get started on manifesting money, one that I like to use is the money calendar. Using a normal calendar, write out which days you expect to get paid and how much. Then, in a different color, write out any of your outgoing expenses for each day.

You will quickly be able to see where and when you are going to run out of money. Naturally, through this process, you’ll be able to calculate how much money you need to fill the gap. From there you will start to subconsciously look for projects that will help you get there.

If you’re only missing a little bit of money, then chances are you might start by talking to your friends about needing extra rent money. Unsurprisingly, through talking to your friends, somebody might offer for you to pet sit for them.

By the way, the example above is actually a true story of what happened to me! In college, I started keeping a money calendar to track where I was at. Soon, I started adding in dollar amounts that I needed but didn’t have. The rest took care of itself.

Are you manifesting or getting lucky?

Now let me ask you a question. When one of these offers works out for you… was that manifestation or luck?

Before you did this exercise, you were going to be in a bad position financially. Yet at the end of this exercise, you will have made money without having to take specific concrete steps, like applying for a job on a website.

By making yourself aware of your financial situation and thinking about the money that you will need to have, you naturally start communicating that to the world around you. And that is the secret magic of manifestation.
